Sanofi Pasteur MSD Pneumococcal Buying Consortium

2005 - Pneumococcal - 10% Discount for 250 Minimum Order 

In 2005, practices can continue to enjoy a 10% discount on pneumococcal vaccine if they order early and buy in bulk.

To qualify practices will need to place a minimum order of 250 doses and take delivery in full before the end of August 2005. Deliveries of the 250 vaccines can be staggered through the period from January to August. 

Aventis are attempting to schedule orders of pneumococcal outside the flu vaccination season and therefore any vaccine ordered for delivery during the flu season will only attract a 5% discount.

Aventis Pasteur to Cut Pneumococcal Discount from August 2004

Surprise Surprise as soon as an enhanced service is agreed for the delivery of a co-ordinated pneumococcal vaccination campaign, sole suppliers, Aventis Pasteur cut the purchasing discount they offer from a quantity specific range of 10—17.5% to a derisory 5%. Practices will of course remember that it was only 12 months ago that they could purchase their pneumococcal vaccine at a 20% discount.

The new prices mean that the additional income practices accrue from buying each dose of pneumococcal is less than half the income they earn from each dose of flu. Practices may well begin to consider how cost effective it is to buy in pneumococcal vaccine bearing in mind they enjoy only 30 days credit and will therefore have to pay for the vaccine long before they receive reimbursement, as well as having to order, store and take the risk on purchasing the vaccine. Of course the extended credit terms offered by flu suppliers (120 days plus) enables practices to be reimbursed for the vaccines prior to making payment and does not impact on practice cash flow.

Current Purchasing Agreement Expires end August 2003

Stockport LMC’s buying group agreement with Aventis Pasteur MSD for pneumococcal and other vaccines is due for renewal at the end of August 2003.

I write at this stage to advise that the preferential terms currently offered detailed below will not be available after this date.

·         20% Discount – Purchase Price £7.45 plus VAT

·         Extended credit to 31^st December 2003

·         All practices supplied and invoiced directly.

As Aventis Pasteur MSD is the sole supplier of pneumococcal vaccine our new purchasing arrangements will not be as advantageous as those previously offered. Discounts will be practice quantity specific and range from 10 – 17.5%.

Practices may therefore wish to stock up on their pneumococcal supply prior to this season’s flu campaign to take advantage of current arrangements.

October 2001 - New Pneumococcal Consortium Supplier

Stockport LMC is pleased to announce a consortium purchasing arrangement with Aventis Pasteur MSD.  

The terms and conditions for Pneumovax® II in a prefilled syringe include:

·        25% Discount – Purchase Price £7.50 plus VAT – NHS Price £10.00

·        All practices supplied and invoiced directly.

·        Up to 120 days credit (payment due by 31^st December 2001).

·        Free Delivery if order value over £100 (i.e. 12 Units).

Stockport LMC has been informed that Aventis Pasteur MSD has a strong supply position. However, as always at this time of year, it is prudent to order early to ensure deliveries can be made in time for your clinics.

Wyeth Pneumococcal Deal Formally Ends

Stockport LMC has been advised that Wyeth no longer have pneumococcal vaccines available at 35% discount.

Stockport LMC is currently negotiating with an alternative supplier who, we are advised, have  supplies available for this Autumn's flu season.

It is hoped that full details will be available next week and practices will be advised accordingly.
