Over 65 Scheme - Excellent Opportunity for General Practice

You will have noted form the medical press that the Flu Incentive Scheme negotiated with Stockport Health Authority has been superceded by a National Scheme which will give each practice a B rate (£6.45) vaccination item of service payment for each over 65 vaccinated in the 2000 Flu Campaign. This payment will be received in addition to the profit element receivable by practices who purchase flu vaccines. Hence a practice will receive up to £11.50 per dose!

This payment at present is said to be a one-off for 2000 only, although we would hope similar schemes would be repeated in forthcoming years.

To take full advantage of this excellent scheme practices will obviously need to plan their campaign, identifying their target patients well in advance and commit additional nurse and GP time to the program during the Flu season.

A Question of Profit - But to WHO??

Stockport LMC has heard on the Grapevine that one or two practices have been offered varying levels of discount by some suppliers in an attempt to match the profit to practice achieved by the LMC Flu Purchase Consortium.

Beware!! - All is not what it appears!

Certain suppliers with a little creative accounting have calculated that they can improve Practice Profitability by the grand sum of 1p per dose.

However, because their basic price is greater than Solvay's by some 60 - 70p per dose, 1000 vaccinations would increase practice profits by, wait for it, £10.00 whilst increasing NHS prescribing costs by £600 - £700!

In this world of unified budgets is it really worth gaining that extra £10.00, all it will do is reduce the monies available in other areas.

Please do remember all suppliers have been given a fair and equitable chance to tender for our consortium, and ignore offers by unsuccessful suppliers to undercut / match our arrangements.

Tender Process 2000 Achieves Improved Vaccine Discount!!

Stockport LMC are pleased to announce Solvay Healthcare as Flu Vaccine supplier for 2000.

The tender adjudication criteria was based on the supply of 120,000 units.

Solvay Healthcare, who successfully supplied the consortium during 1999 provided the best tender combination of lowest price per unit at £2.03(plus VAT), proven track record, added value services and greatest profit to a typical practice of almost £5.00 per dose.

Tenders were also received from Medeva, Pasteur Merieux, Smithkline Beecham, and Wyeth.

Stockport LMC are particularly pleased with the outcome of this year's process which has achieved a 7% improvement on last year's unit price of £2.18.

Terms and conditions are similar to last year and will be detailed on this web site in due course.

Practices will be formally advised  across the next 2 weeks either directly or via their LMC and asked to confirm their order - we look forward to your response!

In the meantime, please remember all suppliers have been given a fair and equitable chance to tender for our consortium, any offers by unsuccessful suppliers to undercut / match our arrangements must immediately be reported to Paul Stevens at Stockport LMC.
