21st November 2001 Flu Consortium Update Stockport LMC have been advised that both Solvay and Wyeth currently have a limited supply of flu vaccine available for immediate delivery. Solvay will supply under existing terms and conditions, whilst Wyeth are offering Sale or Return - maximum 100 doses. Please contact Influvac (Solvay) on 0800 358 7468 or Sam Winter (Wyeth) on 07770 832691 to place an order. Sept 2001 GP Flu Payments - Agreement at Last!! Due to time pressures and the likelihood of a new contract next year agreement has now been reached to carry forward the Item of Service Flu payment mechanism for over 65s from last year. Effectively, GPs will receive an Item of Service payment of £6.55 per dose plus the administration fee for each over 65 vaccinated. GPs will also receive the administration fee for any other patients vaccinated. Many PCTs & LMCs are currently negotiating an additional fee to ensure At Risk groups under 65 year of age are effectively targeted and vaccinated. Stockport LMC is currently in discussions in this respect. For full details of this year's scheme follow this link to the GPC website. Aug 2001 GP Flu Payments - Department's Continuing Obfuscation It is now the second week of August, 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the 2001 Flu Campaign and GPs still do not know how they will be paid for delivering the single most important tool in alleviating Secondary Care Winter Pressures. Despite continuing attempts by the GPC (follow this link for full GPC update) to reach agreement the Department of Health continues to stall in the hope that GPs will once again take on new unresourced work. Following last years payment debacle and the reneging on agreed arrangements it is clear that GPs can not undertake work and trust that the Department to come up with a fair payment. So what should practices do? Some practices have decided not to order vaccine for this year until agreement has been reached. With most suppliers now out of stock and remaining suppliers unable to supply until November, they run the very real risk of being unable to vaccinate their patients at all this year. Other Practices have ordered vaccine but are refusing to commence their vaccination programme until a satisfactory agreement is reached. Whatever the chosen action by practices, the Department are running the very real risk of jeopardizing this year Flu Vaccination Campaign. It is time for the Department to Act and recognise, resource and remunerate General Practice for the work it undertakes. July 2001 Update The Consortium has now passed 105,000 units for the 2001 campaign. Just over 80% have been ordered through Solvay with the remainder from Wyeth. All details of practice orders have now been forwarded to the respective companies and all practices should by now have been contacted by their supplier to arrange delivery dates. Any practice who has not had contact with their supplier (s) should advise Paul Stevens (Old Telephone Number) as soon as possible. March 2001 The Offers We are pleased to advise that we have now received the tenders to supply the Greater Manchester Flu vaccine consortium for 2001. A schedule showing the details of the two successful bidders has been sent to all practices who have previously participated in the Consortium and is available on request from Paul Stevens (Old Telephone Number). It is clear that Solvay is the best offer, marginally better on profit per dose and better terms and conditions across the board including up to 6 months credit. An innovation this time is that both Wyeth & Solvay are offering to pay an additional sum of money to the consortium to cover “administration” of 1.25% and 3% respectively. This effectively makes the Consortium more competitive than a single practice buying once the consortium has distributed these monies to practices. Given
the very small difference in profit per dose between Solvay & Wyeth
(2p per dose) it has been decided to offer all practices the option of
either tender or a 50/50 combination of both. Those
practices that have returned flu vaccines from last year, may wish to
choose to use Solvay for at least part of their order this year to take
advantage of credit notes given. Practices should return their schedules by Friday 27th April 2001. |
